Report of the 2006 Asian Powerlifting Championships in Korea

It was originaly scheduled be held in Mongolia, but with some domestic problem in Mongolia, the 2006 Asian Powerlifting Championships was canceld.

We APF again started to ask our members which countries can host the 2006 Asian Powerlifting Championships. But there were already only half year before the Championships and many countries can not answer yes.

In such a condition ,President of Korea Powerlifting Federation, Mr.Cho promised to host 2006 Asian Championships. He and his officials of Korea started the preparation last November. The host city was decided to be in Teabeak which is located 4 hours east of Soul.

The day when I arrived in Teabeak, 1st of May, 2006, I was surprised that over 170 lifters were got together in this Championships. It was one of the biggest Asian Championships ever. 13 coutries attended the Championships and the opening ceremony was also big enough and even Teabeak city mayer himself atteded the ceremony and held the dinner party to every team delegates.

The venue was Teabeac City Cultural Hall and at the opening ceremony all the lifters were on the stage.

Regarding the results, see the pages of "results". You can see all the results.

If I remember the specialy strong lifters, one of the surprize was Sub-Junior lifter from Indonesia, Sutiono, who made the Sub-Junior Asian record deadlift of 255.5kg at 60kg. He is still 18 years old.

Japanese Miyake broke the World Record at 75kg open men's class benchpress. His record was 233kg.

Turakhanov of Kazakhstan and Malyugina of Uzbekistan made very good total.

Mojtaba Maleki of Iran was even bigger than before but his results was not so good as last year.

At the Asian congress, we decided that we will have 2006 Asian Benchpress Chamipionships in Phillipines on August. See the invitation at the pages of "Invitation".

See you in Phillipines.
